Battery maintenance

Company F. O. R. C. E. GmbH offers Genuine Auto Parts. In the spare parts catalogues you will find more than three thousand items. A number of care and maintenance rules are recommended to ensure that vehicles or parts to be installed last longer. In this article, you will find recommendations for battery care.

The battery is one of the most important elements of a car. It performs three important functions: providing energy for the engine starting process, emergency power in the event of a generator failure, and smoothing out voltage surges.

Like any other cell in the car, the battery requires timely maintenance. All battery maintenance consists in checking and normalizing the electrolyte level, checking the reliability of fasteners, maintaining cleanliness.

Battery maintenance

Let's consider briefly all the procedures that need to be carried out to care for the battery.

Firstly, the electrolyte in the battery should correspond to the season of operation. In warm seasons the density of the electrolyte should correspond to the value of 1.20 gsm3, in cold seasons - 1.24 gsm3.

Seasonal replacement of the electrolyte will slow down the sulphation of the plates and prolong the battery life. Keep an eye on the level of electrolyte and distilled water at all times. If these measures are taken too long, the battery life can be reduced by about 30%.

The charge level also affects the life of the battery. It is necessary to maintain this value at 75%.

Second, to prolong the life of the battery, the ignition should be adjusted so that the engine starts at half a turn. This will prevent the battery from discharging quickly. Remember, the easier it is to start the engine, the longer the battery will last.

Third, the voltage of the circuit must be corrected. The voltage value should be between 13.8 and 14.4 volts.

General recommendations for battery servicing and maintenance

Remove the battery whenever possible and charge it. Strong recharging will have a negative effect on the device's performance. The battery will be fully charged when it boils the electrolyte. After charging, the battery should be washed and dried, as the electrolyte may have gotten on the battery when boiling. Rinse the battery housing with soda solution in water. Be careful not to let this solution get inside the battery.
